VDG designs and manufactures drum motors for various belt conveyor applications, including baggage pier inbound/outbound, baggage check-in scale, queue, merge, accumulation, sortation and power turn conveyors.
The VDG Drum Motor has all drive components including the premium-efficiency electric motor, gear reducer and bearings are enclosed within the drive drum. It operates at a low noise level and is suitable for public areas and environments where low noise is essential. VDG Drum Motors are available in a range of diameter sizes, belt speeds, horsepower, and with lagging options.
Designed specifically for power turn conveyors, the tapered VDG CrossDrive® is a gear motor design that has all vital components including the gear reducer and bearings enclosed within the tapered drive drum. The compact electric motor is C-flange mounted externally, inline with the gear reducer.
For applications requiring motor indexing, the VDG IntelliDrive™ Drum Motor, featuring permanent magnet motor technology, provides up to 60 start/stops per minute and increases electrical efficiency.
Low Noise Environment
The VDG Drum Motor is well suited for public spaces and operates at a noise level of 46 decibels, which is significantly lower than that of a traditional check-in baggage conveyor drive. The gears are manufactured using state-of-the-art gear cutting and shaping equipment to meet DIN6 (AGMA12) industry standards, exceeding OSHA requirements for noise levels.
Maintenance-Free
With all drive components enclosed, and designed for 80,000 hours of continuous operation before maintenance, the VDG Drum Motor eliminates routine maintenance as required for external drive components of traditional conveyor drives. VDG’s IronGrip™ lagging further extends the service life of the drum motor. IronGrip™ eliminates uneven belt wear, improves belt tracking, increases belt traction by 40%, and has 5 times longer service life compared to standard lagging.
