Sales Representative - Heavy Industry Drive Specialist

The Heavy Industry Sales Representative will be responsible for developing and growing VDG Drum Motor sales within an assigned high-potential territory (AL, FL, GA, SC, NC). This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with resellers, OEMs, and end users in the heavy industry sector, including mining, aggregates, and bulk material handling.

The Sales Representative will travel extensively within their designated region, attend local trade shows, and act as a trusted technical resource for customers. This position is key to VDG’s expansion strategy and plays a foundational role in building a direct presence in underdeveloped but strategically important territories across North America.


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Business Development & Revenue Growth
    • Develop and execute territory-specific plans to drive new business and increase market share
    • Conduct market research and prospecting activities to obtain qualified leads and establish a strong sales pipeline.
    • Attend local and national trade shows, association events, industry conferences, and customer visits to expand market presence and build relationships.
  • Sales Execution & Relationship Management
    • Independently schedule and conduct sales calls, presentations, and in-person meetings with key decision-makers and influencers.
    • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers and channel partners.
    • Serve as the primary contact for accounts in the territory, providing ongoing support and follow-up.
  • Technical Support & Application Engineering
    • Assist customers with application-specific engineering for VDG Drum Motors.
    • Provide product recommendations and support based on customer requirements and technical specifications.
    • Coordinate with internal technical and engineering teams for complex sales opportunities.
  • Customer Support & Territory Coverage
    • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, issues, and urgent requests.
    • Travel throughout the assigned region regularly to maintain direct customer contact and support.
  • Reporting & CRM Management
    • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, leads, and opportunities using the company’s CRM system.
    • Generate and submit activity and sales reports as required by management.
    • Track progress toward sales goals and report on territory performance and trends.
  • Market Intelligence & Collaboration
    • Provide feedback from the field on customer needs, competitor activity, and regional industry developments.
    • Collaborate closely with internal sales leadership and departments to support key accounts, align strategies, and drive high-value deals that meet company objectives.


Qualifications:

  • Primary:
    • 2+ years of experience in aggregate/mining equipment sales, industrial product sales, customer service, or account management. Experience with electric motors, gearboxes, or PT/MRO equipment is also accepted.
    • Strong relationship-building skills with a customer-focused approach.
    • Understanding of conveyor systems and basic engineering concepts.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with CRM and ERP systems.
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% throughout the assigned region (vehicle allowance provided).
    • Ability to travel internationally, including occasional visits to VDG headquarters or global trade events.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote capacity.
  • Preferred:
    • Spanish fluency is an asset.
    • Prior experience in technical sales or application engineering support.
    • Knowledge of drum motors, conveyor drives, or mechanical drive systems.


Working Conditions:

  • Remote-based within the assigned region.
  • Frequent travel required (up to 80%), including overnights.
  • Occasional international travel for training, team meetings, or trade shows.
